"So you're telling me that if you play this on the difficulty on which stealth actually matters, the gameplay is a chore.
But then if you play this on any difficulty that's lower, the stealth mechanics have as much depth as the stealth in an Uncharted game. On anything less than EE, the core of the gameplay is running inside lockers and waiting for a timer to go down which , maybe, just maybe, might make this a bad stealth game.
So pick your poison, either a difficult chore or a mild snooze. End result; Bad Game"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIYBod0ge3Y I really hate this video. It takes a really interesting text and then uses it as a chance to "both sides" American politics while spewing conservative talking points. On top of that his cadence and presentation make me think he believes he's making some huge revelation. Just generally shit video
Would you complain if instead of "both sides" american politics the video was 100% liberal?
I dont see what is bad about the talking points. The talking points on video are pretty valid (like the "political biases" one). Talking points shouldnt be limited, especially related to power and political topics.
Yes, because MGS2 is neither a liberal nor a conservative outlook, nor is it confined to the modern western party systems, that YouTuber, like many other critics, find it so hard to think outside of their own base experience. Basically, SOL is about the digitization of media, the conflicting nature of desire for absolute truth, and the helplessness of soldiers, agents, and civil servants (all of which were pervasive in the meta of video game culture, furthering the game's meta-commentary) who become disillusioned as they actualize themselves as a cog in an unknowable machine. The overarching "takeaway" so to speak, is based on liberty and the uniquely human conceptualization of living one's own truth. These are not rigid lessons to map onto vague fearmongering, (re: we have no option to stop this overhaul of compounding useless info) it's like him and a large section of the audience forget that the patriots are SUPPOSED to be the bad guys. Maybe they are correct in logical assesments, but that doesn't make them right. Once again, a piece of the truth that the audience likes to hold on to, (. The world is being engulfed in "truth.")
The vid I linked basically pontificates on their low-iq perceptions of the "issues" going on and then maps them onto the vague idea that the patriots contain a solution worth thinking about that doesn't exist in real life. People getting "canceled" on twitter for mystery tweets from 10 years ago is the exact kind of fearmongering that conservative nobodies are so afraid of because at the center of themselves they are hollow consumers of art and thus their perspective will always be limited and pathetic.
In the final game, there's a part where Raiden swims underwater with Emma. Nothing too unusual happens, but while they're underwater, Kojima originally wanted blood seeping out of Emma's crotch. When they surface, Raiden would ask: "Where are you hurt?" and Emma would blush and say: "Uhh, I'm fine." Later in the story, Emma's fatally stabbed by Vamp. Raiden's audibly concerned with how much blood she's losing, then she'd look up and say: "I'm fine... it's just my... period..." then let out her final breath. Those would've been her dying words. But Kojima's team all hated the idea, so all those menstrual gags got cut.
Truly the voice of our times, a prophet even. This man can do no wrong. Now let me tell you how deeeeeep this game is and how the writing is next levels man.
bringing up otacon being sexually abused as a child as some kind of "writing flaw" in the same vein as the intentionally over-the-top and comedic stuff is fucking insane
If I may ask, what's your opinions on killer7 and Pathologic 2? killer7 I feel like is the other side of this game's coin, while Pathologic 2 you would probably despise because of it's gameplay mechanics.
Haven't gotten around to Pathologic 2 yet. Killer 7 I played a few years ago and I quite liked it for it's absurdist story and unusual blend of genres. Didn't like the ending because it required a very specific series of inputs that weren't obvious to me and that undermined the drama of that sequence. But nevertheless it's a really unique game and even with its flaws, it's debatable whether anything has done what Killer7 does better than Killer7.
