Great cast, good story... but I didn't enjoy the battle system. Even though I usually preferring turn-based over action in RPGs. This one was just... poorly implemented.
couldn't make it through this one. finished chapter 6 and i'll admit the plot was finally picking up by that point but the dungeon to get there was so boring that i couldn't care. this game doesn't respect your time in like 100 different ways, big and small.
Only played Kiwami 1 and 0 (back to back which probably didn't help) and got burnt out by the end of 0 and skipped many more substories and activities than while playing 1, and as decent as 1 is, 0 story is great and gameplay is tighter but there's something about 7's story that resonated with far more despite a bunch of campy moments and silly deus ex machinas. Overall a surprisingly fantastic JRPG and Yakuza game, strong 9, maybe a 9,5. Usually I get bored of +50 hour long JRPGs because their gameplay systems stop being interesting, stories generally become too convoluted or not interesting enough, fights generally just get more and more bloated and not really much more challenging (not saying this game doesn't have similar issues at times), but the story, the side content, the job system and the slightly dynamic approach to the combat (like quickly jabbing an enemy while they're down for extra damage) made this engaging for the +80 hours until end credits rolled and even hunting down those 10-15 achievements I had left, I guess True Millenium Tower could've been cooler if you didn't have to grind vagabonds til level 99 job and the experience gains were better distributed, but oh well, it is the ultimate achievement after all and none others demanded any sort of grinding.
