Bloodborne Game of the Year Edition

Level layout is excellent only until you reach Byrgenwerth, after that it becomes a wasted potential and starts dipping downhill and never recovers until the final level "Mensis"
I prefer the level design of Elden Ring and the first Dark Souls.

After you hear about Byrgenwerth its disappointing when you get there and its super shallow, i wish they invested a bit more into that area, it feel unfinished or halfbaked i dont know how to put it, but compared to Yharnam the rest of the game is very lackluster.
Even at the DLC the best level there (Clockwork Tower) never really beats Yharnham for me. Yharnaham is a legit 10/10 level, sadly the rest nowhere near as good.

PiccoloZ you have to consider the Lecture Building area as a part of Byrgenwerth in essense, the Byrgenwerth you see at the end of the Forbidden Woods should feel underwhelming, because it is meant to, you hear about this incredible institution only for it to be, like you said, not that much. It's only once you explore the Lecture Building that the void is filled in that sense and you uncover many of the secrets you were expecting to uncover in what is left at what is left of old Byrgenwerth. In that context the layout is very full, not only that but how they designed it is mindblowing... a school building drifting through the fabric of space and time because the ideas propelled humanity into the cosmos (or whatever your theory is for why them mfs be there). like damn, I get how this design isn't everyones cup of tea but I personally love how this really takes you through the motions, you go from completely devastated to having your expectations completely blown out of the water. They couldn't have done Brygenwerth better imo, mindblowing design and you simply can't look at at the areas from the traditional perspective of standard soul levels, as like you said Yarnem is the only straight forward one of it's kind in this whole game, the departure from that structure is when the games magic actually kicks in and this starts to become the greatest game of all time imo

This game is so great that if you dont care about the lore nor any character at all, you will still enjoy it purely because of the gameplay, charm, aesthetic and atmosphere. This is what an ideal game should be like for me. The cosmic horror of it and the design of enemies is also perfect even if you dont read deep into the lore of them.

Sony seemingly outright neglects BB though, even during their polls when asking players what's their favourite game BB is never included as an option.

Bloodborne is very easily a 10/10

^ Nah, it's performance is horrid and a couple mechanics aren't as intuitive as their other Souls games. It's as worthy of a 5/5 as the other games.
